Can I gain a plenary indulgence for a soul on an ordinary day?
Current norm
Current norm What the Church holds
Yes. The Manual names four works that are open every day of the year (Other Concessions, Introduction n. 7): half an hour of adoration of the Blessed Sacrament; the Way of the Cross; five decades of the Rosary prayed without interruption in a church, in a family or with others; and half an hour of reading Sacred Scripture. With the three conditions, any of them can be offered for the dead.
Private revelation What the saints and mystics report
The witnesses press the same works: the Way of the Cross next to the Mass (the Unpublished Manuscript); the Stations as “a suffrage of the greatest value” (Ven. Mary d’Antigua); and the Rosary (Maria Simma, the Portuguese visionary).
