Ask the Lantern
Put any question to the Lantern’s library. It answers in the light of the Church’s teaching, and shows you where to read further.

How the Lantern answers
- From the Lantern’s own shelves
- Every answer begins in the pages of this site — the essays, the doctrine pages, the prayers, devotions and glossary — and links the passages it draws on, so you can read them whole. Scripture is quoted from the Douay-Rheims, and the Catechism of the Catholic Church and the Baltimore Catechism are read directly.
- In the light of the Church
- Questions are answered from within the Catholic faith as the Church teaches it. Where a matter is defined doctrine, common teaching, or pious opinion, the answer tries to say which.
- A helper, not an authority
- The answers are written by an AI model and can be mistaken. Treat them as a librarian’s first pointer, follow the links, and weigh what you read against the Church’s own words. The Lantern cannot hear confessions or settle a particular case of conscience: for those, please go to a priest.
- Nothing is kept
- Your questions are sent to be answered and are not stored by the Lantern. The conversation stays in this browser tab and is gone when you close it, or when you choose “Begin again”. Please do not type anything you would not want another person to read.
Would you rather a person answered? Send your question to the keeper of the Lantern.
