How to Pray the Chaplet of St. Michael

The Chaplet of St. Michael honours the nine choirs of angels through nine salutations. According to tradition, the devotion was revealed to the Servant of God Antonia d'Astonac by St. Michael himself, who promised that anyone who honoured him by these nine salutations would have, when approaching Holy Communion, an escort of nine angels chosen from each of the nine choirs.

  1. Begin with the invocation: O God, come to my assistance. O Lord, make haste to help me.
  2. Pray the Glory Be.
  3. For each of the nine salutations:
    • Read the salutation to the angelic choir.
    • Read the three Scripture verses — one before each Hail Mary.
    • Pray one Our Father and three Hail Marys.
  4. Pray four Our Fathers in honour of St. Michael, St. Gabriel, St. Raphael, and your Guardian Angel.
  5. Pray the closing prayer to St. Michael.
